By the Rap Duo Video team

These funny rap lyrics are 25 clean bars we wrote ourselves, sorted by topic: mornings, food, phones, errands, work, family and dad jokes. Drop them into a toast, a card, a caption or a video, no credit needed. After famous funny lyrics instead? The classic comedy raps are listed further down.
Mornings
The hour nobody is good at, which makes it perfect material.
- I set seven alarms like a seven-man crew, / they all did their job and I slept right through.
- Brewed my coffee so strong that it stood up and spoke, / said "you're late for work, and the toaster is broke."
- Ran for the bus with my shoes on the wrong feet, / the driver waved bye from the end of the street.
- I said "five more minutes" at a quarter to eight, / now it's twenty past nine and those minutes are late.
Food and the kitchen
Good intentions, bad follow-through, and a fridge that tells the truth.
- My fridge holds a lemon, some ketchup, a dream, / and a yogurt that's older than half of my team.
- I meal-prepped on Sunday, seven boxes in a row, / by Monday at lunch there was nothing to show.
- Said "just one chip", and I meant it, I swore, / now I'm shaking the crumbs from the bag on the floor.
- Ordered a salad to prove I'm a pro, / then added large fries, just so everyone knows.
Phones and tech
Small screens, big problems. Everyone in the room will recognise these.
- Phone at two percent and I'm hugging the wall, / socket to socket like a tour of the mall.
- I typed "on my way" while I'm still in my bed, / the map says thirty minutes, I told them five instead.
- Made a password so safe I can't log in myself, / now my photos are locked on a digital shelf.
- Autocorrect turned my "see you soon" into "spoon", / now Grandma's been waiting with soup since noon.
Out and about
Errands, parking and the gym, where life keeps score in public.
- Self-checkout said "unexpected item" twice, / the item was me, and it wasn't too nice.
- Parallel parked with the whole street in view, / eleven attempts and the curb's black and blue.
- Went to the gym and I found my best spot, / the smoothie bar's lovely, the treadmill is not.
Work and school
Calls, deadlines and exams: shared pain makes the loudest laugh.
- I was on mute for my best idea of the year, / then unmuted to crunch on a chip, loud and clear.
- Studied all night for the test, I was set, / it was all on the chapter I haven't read yet.
- My boss said "quick sync", I said "sure, no stress", / that sync's in its third week now, more or less.
Family and birthdays
For the group chat, the birthday card or the toast at dinner.
- Dad tells a joke and then laughs for an hour, / the joke is so old that the punchline's gone sour.
- Family photo, everybody counting to three, / eleven blinks later it's just Grandma and me.
- Hit thirty and now my knees beatbox when I stand, / I'm a one-man duo, no need for a band.
- Mum calls me tech support for the TV and phone, / I press the same button she pressed on her own.
Dad jokes, rapped
Groan first, laugh second. Dad jokes were always bars waiting for a beat.
- Said "I'm hungry" at dinner, Dad said "nice to meet you", / thirty years running and he thinks it's brand new.
- Dad read "wet paint" and he touched it to see, / now his hand is bright yellow and so is the tree.
- Asked Dad for a ride and he said "you're a car", / I'm still on the corner, I didn't get far.
Classic funny rap songs to study
Comedy has been part of hip-hop from the start. These six tracks are worth a listen before you write: not to borrow from, but to hear how timing and a straight face sell a joke. We list titles, acts and years only, so go and play the originals.
| Track | Act | Released | Why it lands |
|---|---|---|---|
| Parents Just Don't Understand | DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince | 1988 | A teenager's shopping trip told as a disaster movie |
| Just a Friend | Biz Markie | 1989 | Gloriously off-key singing that became the whole point |
| The Humpty Dance | Digital Underground | 1990 | A rapper in a fake nose bragging about everything he is not |
| Lazy Sunday | The Lonely Island | 2005 | A trip to the cinema rapped with total gangster seriousness |
| White & Nerdy | "Weird Al" Yankovic | 2006 | A parody that out-raps plenty of straight-faced songs |
| I'm on a Boat | The Lonely Island feat. T-Pain | 2009 | Ordinary luxury inflated to absurd heights |
Writing funny bars yourself
- Shrink the topic. "Money" is too big to be funny; "the one coin stuck under the car seat" is not. The smaller and more specific, the bigger the laugh.
- Set up, then pay off. The first half of the couplet sounds normal. The second half twists it, and the twist lives in the very last word.
- Exaggerate one thing. Seven alarms, eleven parking attempts, a yogurt older than the team. Pick one detail and stretch it until it snaps.
- Deliver it dead serious. A silly line performed like a championship verse is funnier than a silly line performed with a wink.
- Read it out loud. If you trip over a word, so will the beat. Cut syllables until the line rolls.
Want lines aimed at a friend instead of at life? Our rap battle roasts are written for exactly that, and they stay just as clean.
How to rap these lines out loud
Every bar above is a couplet: two halves split by a slash, with the rhyme at the end of each half. Clap a slow, steady beat, or put on any instrumental around 90 beats per minute, and fit one half into each bar of music. If a half feels crowded, drop a filler word; if it feels thin, stretch the last word.
Pause for a breath just before the final word of the second half. That tiny gap is where the laugh lives. For a toast or a party, split each couplet between two people: one sets it up, the other lands it. That is exactly how rap duos have traded lines for decades, as our list of the best rap duos shows.
Turn your bars into a funny rap video
A bar on a page earns a smile; the same bar coming out of your best friend's mouth earns a replay. In our AI rap generator you add one photo of yourself and one of a friend, type a topic such as "the yogurt in our shared fridge", and the studio writes an original song and animates the two of you performing it on a stage of your choice. The lyrics are new each time, so treat our bars as inspiration for the topic rather than a script.
Making it for a special day? A birthday rap song or a funny birthday video uses the same idea. For a playful back-and-forth, try a friendly diss track, and if you are new to the studio, the step-by-step guide walks through every screen. Want a performer who is not you?
